SOUTH MOUNTAIN CREAMERY
May is National Egg Month and we’re celebrating by offering
BOGO dozen of eggs at Karen’s Kountry Store in Middletown, MD! We want our
customers to know the importance of buying a certified humane egg. Happy chickens
= a better tasting egg!
EGGcellent egg standards are a high priority at South
Mountain Creamery. We achieved our Certified Humane certification in 2011. “The
Certified Humane Raised and Handled® program is a certification and labeling
program that is the only animal welfare label requiring the humane treatment of
farm animals from birth through slaughter. The goal of the program is to
improve the lives of farm animals by driving consumer demand for kinder and
more responsible farm animal practices. When you see the Certified Humane
Raised and Handled® label on a product you can be assured that the food
products have come from facilities that meet precise, objective standards for

In addition, We meet the Humane Farm Animal Care program standards which includes nutritious diet without antibiotics or hormones, animals raised with shelter, resting areas, sufficient space, and the ability to engage in natural behaviors.
We built a new and improved chicken house to obtain this
certification. Although the house is large enough to hold 110,000 caged
chickens, ours houses 17,000 happy and healthy Isa Brown chickens that are
temperature controlled, have access to outdoors, are allotted plenty of light,
and have plenty of moving room! We provide an all-vegetarian diet high in DHA
and Omega 3! You can taste the SMC difference in our eggs at our farm store in Middletown, MD or have them delivered directly to your home!
These standards coincide with that of our entire process:
from growth, to production, to processing, packaging and sale. SMC prides
itself on being Maryland’s FIRST on-the-farm dairy processing plant. Our
process can be referred to “from field to fork!”
